"American Wing" is a proposed pavilion in extension to the American Wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The American Wing of the museum is concerned with the artistic legacy of the North American continent, located in the north-west corner of the Metropolitan Museum, facing Central Park, with no connection to the park whatsoever. Central Park in turn should be considered as one of the most imortant and influential artistic accomplishments of the 19th Century US of A. While Olmsted indeed features within the museum, the museum as a built environment turns a blind eye to the physical presence of the artifact. The proposed pavilion extends out at the second floor of the museum and includes the park itself as part of the exhibition.
